We had an interesting order this time, with a semi-enclosed patio best suited for vertical shades. To fit the rustic, outdoorsy aesthetic of the covered patio, Mr. Atazonin wanted wood, wicker, or bamboo shades. With the relatively thin space to cover, his first choice of bamboo was viable.
This project called for fairly short, thirty-six-inch bamboo rods, but in very high quantity. We assembled the long sheet and fitted them to a vertical roller which we mounted to the end of the window. The bamboo shades move along a single set of tracks on the upper windowsill, with the sheet hanging free at the bottom. The roller is crank-operated, and we installed the track with slightly looser screws on the trailing end to provide the slope for easy closing. It’s a simple setup, but as long as the tracks are kept clean and oiled it should be a long-lasting one.
