Mr. Trask’s exterior shades were destroyed in an incident of vandalism, and he needed a replacement. He wanted something functional, convenient, and attractive. This meant no motorized shades or other electrical systems; just old fashioned exterior shades.
This was a large, five feet by four feet window, so vertical exterior shades like the last set Mr. Trask owned would fit best. We consulted him on many options for materials, colors, and locking systems. While he expressed interest in magnetic shades they didn’t fit the budget, so he went with some old fashioned belt-drawn roller shades instead. We used a strong fiberglass weave in a cool, dark mauve color, and used his old draw-belt system to hook up to the new roller. We put the new system through its paces and smoothed out the groove on the outside of the windowpane tracks to stabilize the new shades.
